Handcrafted Small Roman Coin Necklace
What first struck me about Gemma Sangster's jewellery is that it's a Scottish brand that feels completely contemporary. Gemma makes every piece by hand in her studio in the middle of Glasgow, and her designs work with any look.
They're also incredibly versatile. The same necklace works every day with jeans and a jumper, and just as well dressed up for a party or with a cocktail dress. I also love that lots of her collection is made from recycled metals.
I love the story behind this one. The pendant is cast from an original Roman coin that was found in England with a metal detector. Centuries of wear have softened the details, so you can still make out the coin, but it has a beautiful, gently worn texture. It makes a really special gift, or a treat for yourself.
You can read more about Gemma and her Glasgow studio in my piece on Gemma Sangster of Darte Jewellery.

Gold vermeil is sterling silver with a thick layer of gold, so it lasts far longer than ordinary gold plating and is a good choice if you react to cheaper plated jewellery.
