Sisu Stationery

Hand-bound A5 Notebook, handcrafted in Scotland

The thing I love about these notebooks is that each one is unique.

Stuart, the man behind Sisu Stationery, spent over 40 years as a trade bookbinder and print finisher before going it alone, and he makes each notebook entirely by hand in a shed he built himself in Scotland. He sources striking decorative papers, from block-printed florals to marbled sheets, and rarely uses the same one twice. Once a design has gone, it's gone.

You can see his expertise in the finishing. Each notebook is half-bound, with binding cloth on the spine and corners and a decorative paper on the front, over sturdy 3mm boards. The ribbon marker, headbands and magnetic bookmark are all colour-matched to the cover. Inside are 96 pages of thick 100gsm cream paper, ruled or blank.

I've met Stuart several times, and what I love about his work is the fun it brings to everyday things. An A5 notebook is the right size for to-do lists, meeting notes, planning or journalling, and it feels a bit special every time you open it.
