These designs have been created by artist Elaine Ogilvie. They are translations of designs from the Pictish Kingdom of Fortriu which is recorded in the 4th to 10th centuries C.E. The fascinating and incredibly detailed patterns, carved into stone, stand as testament to the sophistication of their culture. They use colours reflecting the palette of natural dyes which would have been available at the time.
The throws are woven in Scotland using soft merino lambswool. The result is a surprisingly contemporary collection, with a historical provenance reaching deep into the history of the British Isles.
