Family Days Out Across Scotland this Easter
Spring came early this year in Scotland so it’s the perfect time to get children outside and into the fresh air. And with Easter around the corner there are plenty of ways to combine the two. From castles and parks to science fairs and working farms, these Easter events offer fun, education and fresh air in equal measure.
Here’s a round-up of family-friendly Easter activities across Scotland:
Spring Family Fun Day, Glamis Castle
13 April 2025
A day out at this fairy-tale looking castle looks to be a good one, with a great programme of family entertainment. Expect a full line-up including laser clay pigeon shooting, Segway rides, bungee trampolines, foraging walks and inflatable golf. And an Easter egg hunt! There will be lots of food stalls too, though I’d save a bob or two and bring a picnic to eat in the beautiful grounds.
Easter at Guardswell Farm, Perthshire
18 – 21 April 2025
The best of both worlds, at Guardswell you’ll get a day out in the countryside but this one is packed full of events. They’ve created a hands-on Easter weekend complete with donkey walks, wreath making, farm tours and family yoga. As the day winds down, gather round the bonfire for a story under the stars. It’s a thoughtful, unplugged kind of getaway that mixes nature and relaxation.
National Trust for Scotland Easter Egg Trails
18-21 April 2025
The National Trust for Scotland brings back its much-loved Easter trails across 40 of its properties across Scotland, including Haddo House, Threave Garden and Alloa Tower. Follow the clues, explore scenic estates and keep an eye out for chocolatey surprises. I’ve done loads of these over the years and it’s always a good option if you’re looking to combine outdoor exploring with some more enticing Easter fun.
Lambing Season at Lennox of Lomond
Weekends in April 2025
Lambing season is well upon us and Lennox of Lomond offers a real insight into life on a working farm. Located near Luss on Loch Lomond’s western shores, this family-friendly experience includes tractor trailer tours, time with newborn lambs and stunning views of the loch. Sessions are 90 minutes and suitable for children over 1 year old. A memorable way to introduce children to Scotland’s farming life.
The Botanics Easter Trail, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh
4-21 April 2025
The White Rabbit’s on the run, and children are invited to help him find his way through Edinburgh’s Botanic Garden. Just pick up a trail booklet at the John Hope Gateway and follow clues across the garden. If they reach the end, a small treat awaits, which is a good way to incentivise the kids around the Botanics. And if it’s fair, bring a picnic, as the food here is fairly pricey.
Edinburgh Science Festival
5-20 April 2025
The UK’s largest science festival makes its annual appearance and there’s a full programme for kids. With hands-on exhibits and events across various venues in the city, children (and adults) can explore everything from the weather to dinosaurs and even space travel. A top choice for keeping curious minds busy with some well-organised, affordable and educational fun.
Scone Palace Garden Fair
30-31 May 2025
This is a bit further away but Scotland’s National Flower Show returns to the grounds of Scone Palace for its fourth year. You’ll find expertly curated floral displays, garden workshops, talks and the Scottish Garden Design Competition. If the weather’s good, it’s a lovely day out whether you’re a devoted gardener or simply fancy a day out in a beautiful castle setting.
