Meet our Makers
Our makers range from city-dwellers to remote islanders. Some are flying solo, doing their making in the pockets of time after the day job’s done, others are building up impressive teams of people and taking on studios and industrial units. They are creative, innovative, passionate, skilled and hugely hardworking. Here are their stories.
Description
Futtle's original beer, made in the brewery in St Monans back in 2019. Their most popular beer which has remained largely unchanged from their early batches.
Water comes from the farm's borehole, organic whole grains (barley, wheat and a large proportion of oats) and whole leaf hops. They don’t boil the wort, heating it more gently to avoid removing all of the oilier proteins and weight from the final beer. They also pass the wort from the copper through a hop back before transferring for fermentation to give the beer even more aroma from the lovely organic whole leaf hops. This means the alcohol is kept relatively low but the beer still has plenty going on.
Light, refreshing, with lowish alcohol, but still characterful. A very humble beer, but a nourishing one too.
